Professor Alain Chichom-Mefire is a general Surgeon, university lecturer and clinical researcher. He completed all formal training in 2005 and was posted in the Limbe Regional Hospital in a semi-urban area of the South-West of Cameroon where he practiced surgery under limited technical background for 11 years. In 2009 he became a lecturer in the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Buea and a "Professeur des Universités – Practicien Hospitalier" in Paris, France in 2014.

For the past 10 years, Professor Chichom-Mefire has dedicated his professional life to redefining the standards of surgery to adapt them to the working conditions of those who practice surgery under technically challenging situations. He is also concerned about improving the delivery of surgical and anaesthetic services to the majority and the needy.

He has published over 40 articles in peer-reviewed journals. He is a member of numerous surgical societies such as the International Society of Surgery (ISS-SIC), the International Association of Trauma Surgery and Intensive Care (IATSIC), the World Society  of emergency Surgery (WSES) and the Alliance for Surgery and Anaesthesia Presence (ASAP).

His research activities are currently oriented towards improving 3 main areas: the outcome of abdominal sepsis, the care of the injured and patient safety in surgery. He has mentored over 30 student's thesis during the past five years.
