Emerson N. Wepngong, MD graduated from the Faculty of Health Sciences of the University of Buea, Cameroon. In 2013, he obtained a B.Sc. in biomedical sciences at the Institute of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (INMEBS) of the Cameroon Christian University. Emerson is interested in clinical research and also has a special interest in philanthropic activities geared towards meeting the health needs of people living in resource-poor settings. Emerson is a member of several students' organisations and associations, some of which are: the Federation of African Medical Students' Associations (FAMSA), where he holds the post of Central African Regional Coordinator, and "A Student's Help In Africa" (ASHIA), where he is the contact person for Cameroon. Through these organisations he has written or co-written and coordinated several projects that have impacted the lives of many in remote and resource-poor settings of Africa with the aid of grants and other financing mechanisms.

With support from the UCSF Center for Global Surgical Studies, Emerson is looking to understand the incidence of chest and abdominal injury in the Southwest Region of Cameroon.
