Laura is a medical student at UCSF interested in trauma and emergency medicine in developing countries. She earned a BA in Neuroscience from Barnard College. Prior to attending medical school, Laura worked as a researcher at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland for two years studying neural networks of taste in mice. Laura has had multiple international experiences since high school, with much of her focus in Senegal. She developed a strong relationship with a small Senegalese NGO, La Maison de la Gare, which provides emergent shelter and food as well as basic healthcare and education to a marginalized group of boys called the talibe. She has also spent time in Kenya and Nepal. Laura is excited to work with the Center for Global Surgical Studies and global communities to improve healthcare quality and access to disadvantaged populations.
